The Orgins of Moving across the Bay

We ended up moving to Emeryville, CA in March 2007 for two reasons: I got a job in Emeryville and we could not find a decent 2 bedroom in San Francisco (with a a dog and a cat) for under $2,800. We started looking in the Berkeley and Oakland (Rockridge) and stumbled upon the Green City Lofts on 41st and Adeline (one of the first all-green housing projects in the US).

We lived in a huge 2 bedroom / 2 bath / 2 floor loft for a few months and loved the neighborhood (15 mins to downtown SF, next to Oakland and Berkeley, Ikea - ha - and a very decent residential area).

We had planned to live at GCL for a few years when we decided to look at the house down the block that was for sale: one of the only surviving houses on 41st street (the other houses were run down and scheduled for renovation as part of a huge condo/housing complex on the street. We never expected to buy a home but wanted to see inside. Our landlord was also a real estate agent and convinced us to look.
